Personal Insights
The theme of “Christmas on Call” revolves around first responders, their commitment, and their struggles during holidays which is an aspect less explored in the world of holiday romances. With the romantic chemistry shared between Sara Canning and Ser’Darius Blain, their characters’ journey comes out to be very convincing and quite endearing. On the other hand, Philadelphia, where the movie is set, is a lively and refreshing addition to the story with its customs and sights making it even better.
Cultural Significance
The Beatles began their invasion of America in 1964, after a fourth of July performance, by introducing to the American audience their unique brand of music which says ‘we’re not from here’. An equally interesting representation of this musicality is through Philadelphia Eagles’ Travis and Jason Kelce, two NFL stars’ mother, Donna Kelce, who truly manages to embody the roots of the Kelce brothers’ charm and love for Philadelphia, through her appearance in a cameo. She can be seen serving potato salad and cheesesteaks. Penn Pates’ film combines great sports and filmmaking since its narrative covers America’s love for its first responders and struggle through holidays.
In summary, “Christmas on Call” is a charming holiday film. It captures romance, friendship and the holiday spirit into a great story which is acceptable within the context of the season.
