Look Back

“Look Back” is a two-dimensional thematic graphic novel which has been penned down by none other than the famous author of Chainsaw Man – Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was first issued in July 2021. It tells a story of two hopeful manga creators who come together as a result of their dreams, ambition, affectionate bonds, and the struggles that are part and parcel of their lifetime journey.

Synopsis

The story begins with Ayumu Fujino, who is a fierce fourth grader and boasts of having several four-coma manga published in the school paper. Her creative confidence takes a knock when she learns of the existence of Kyomoto, a shy girl in her class, who possesses amazing drawing abilities that are more advanced than that of Fujino. Strangely enough, this developed rivalry turns out to be a strong bonding experience which greatly influences their growth as artists and individuals.

Critical Reception

“Look Back” achieved significant fame during its publication. On its release, it was recorded that the story gained 2.5 million readers in less than 24 hours, which spectacularly increased to over 4 million in two days. It was ranked first in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! along with the 15 Manga Taishō awards, of which it placed second. In the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 edition, it was placed first among men. The work was nominated for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material-Asia, which was then awarded to the 2023 Eisner Awards.

Incorporation

In 2024, a film directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama is due to the manga, “Look Back” which became others animelike. The original version of the film is the Taiwanese version that terrorists. It Can now be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
