Synopsis
Set in a not-so-distant future with severe environmental hazards, humanity exists thanks to a special drug known as AIRemedy, owned by the South African Company, Aethera. Aethera manages to convince the public that AIRemedy acts as a shield against toxic elements around the environment, thus playing god over their subjects since only those who possess it live. It is fair to note, however, that their output does not fully satisfy the needs of the world population. An underground movement, spearheaded by the equally mysterious Lazarus, appears to counter the monopoly of Aethera.
Ella McPhee is a well-known model for Aethera and is played by Grace Van Dien. Ella has had a rough relationship with her mother, who has died by suicide, and her life takes a 180-degree skew when she ingests a strange substance at a party, thinking it is some new party drug. This leads to unanticipated mutations within her; abilities such as boosted strength and gliding, with the addition of physical distortions like abnormal dermal growths and retractable chitinous spurs.
While adjusting to her new self, Ella gets into mess with multiple groups: Aethera working research department under Eric O’Connors (Daniel Sharman) who wants to abuse her condition, radical opposition groups who want her powers to free humanity, and finally, the police force looking for her to imprison her as a criminal. Over time, Ella learns that her elongations have a purpose: to ensure species survival in the oppressive space of hostile universe.

Personal Insights
The Movie “The Fix” encompasses a story that revolves around individual growth and larger social contexts as well. Grace Van Dien gives a great performance as Ella whose character transitions from the life of a meek individual in a regulated system to that of a strong willed activist. Such themes of resource monopolization and human guinea pigs by the film’s characters instil the idea of contemporary society’s fears about ecosystem destruction and corporate ethics.
