GTMax

“GTMax” is the 2024 French action film directed by Olivier Schneider, who was a stunt coordinator in “Fast X”. The film stars Ava Baya as Soélie, a former motocross talent drawn into extreme robbery alongside modified Yamaha TMAX scooters.

Synopsis

Soélie, a tumbler of bike races who was once known a competitive motocross rider, has quit racing after one serious accident that changed her life. She now focuses on training, and in this case, her brother Michael. When Michael is picked up by the TMAX gang in Parc la Villette for a big job in Paris, Soélie has to gather her courage and come back to the racing world in order to save her family.

Cast and Key Performances

  • Ava Baya as Soélie: Baya’s performance is impressive while portraying Soélie’s sensibility and her determination in the conflict.
  • Jalil Lespert as Elyas: Lespert plays the head of the crew that goes in for the heist and in so doing, the films antagonist begins to come across as more troubled.
  • Gérard Lanvin as Daniel: Lanvin is Soeli and Michael’s father, a retired dirt bike champion who is struggling due to his divorce.
  • Riadh Belaïche as Michael: In the film, Riadh Belaiche performs the character of Soélie’s younger sibling, which sets the intrigue when he is included in the heist.

Aesthetic Style

The movie boasted of adrenaline fuelled chase and vehicular stunts which were more akin to ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, only that scooters were used instead of cars. The action scenes had the perfect setting with Paris showing off its narrow streets and famous landmarks.

Critical Reception

The film ‘GTMax’ has not been warmly embraced though there have been distinct aspects praised by critics and ordinary fans. Critiques of the film have commended the actress Ava Baya and focus on the action scenes; however, others have faulted the film, arguing that it is predictable and most of the family drama is poorly developed. Decider made their recommendation clear and stated that the movie should be avoided as it ‘contains neither depth nor engagement that would make it more than just another TV movie’.

From the 22nd of November 2024, it is no longer a chance to watch ‘GTMax’ at the theatre. People in Delhi, India can view the film subject to availability on the site.
