Synopsis

Due for release soon is the action thriller movie ‘Carry On’ which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who is probably best known for his work on Jungle Cruise, and the Black Adam films. The film centers on Ethan Kopek, a young TSA officer whose life takes a tortuous turn when he is threatened by an unknown passenger on Christmas. The condition? Personal Insights

I would say that Carry on is not your typical holiday thriller movie. The holidays are not anything that one would expect because it targets the action and suspense genre similar to that of Die Hard (1988). Rather than sentimentality the movie utilizes Christmas in the same way that Yule for Action Commentaries which raises the expectations in once again leveraging the grown on set of Taron Egerton who has proven great versatility.

After setting the premise, Jaume suggested that Serria would give Carry On more promotional intent no-stop with focusing on more airports which the movie takes place. From the way Serria built so much tension throughout the entire movie while very reliant on confined spaces would be exploitive of the airport with building the scenes of panic and heightening the stakes with each passing scene while still being coherent. The film gets the positioning to solve the moral dilemma with the aid of time pressure while at the same time being an entertaining thrill.

Cultural Significance

The film dials into the fears of the flying and security concerns found in the world today. By having an ordinary person like Ethan – who is put in extreme situations most ordinary people would not be, the film examines the psychology of how average people behave in a society where every action, even the simplest of them holds great value. This is appealing to a world that is continuously delving into safety, trust and ethics.

The fact that Netflix poured money into the film suggests, it sees itself as a serious player in the action thriller genre making it clear that they want to showcase the big names in the industry whilst making them enticing to a larger audience through streaming.

There’s no way Carry On won’t be a thriller that will be centrally directed. It will be especially appealing to those who liked Taron Egerton and hate having tension in the story. Expect all the elements in such films when it streams on Netflix, the engaging twists, the conflicts of right and wrong and the heart-racing events.
