Personal Insights
Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds is an ode to creativity and bravery. The story structure refers to certain traditional children’s stories, but it is sophisticated enough for adults thanks to its underlying philosophical ideas. In particular the bond that forms between Juliette and Carmen is touching; the sister’s resolve is a testament to their family’s resilience. The animation in the film clearly has inspiration from Studio Ghibli but has a strong European feel to it, owing to the painting-type backgrounds and smooth flowing animations.
Cultural Significance
The movie becomes a modern fairy tale with focus on the need for curiosity and the significance to tell stories. The recorded narration goes hand in hand with the artistic development that is being observable in some areas of European animation. It also provides in a gentle way an implicit criticism of dominant ideologies pertaining to control and freedom; thus, it can be considered as a relevant artifact for environmental discourses in the contemporary society.
Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds is an excellent choice for viewers who are looking for vibrant and inspiring stories filled with animated characters. It’s an excellent alternative for a family gets together or for someone looking to relieve themselves with a sense of wonder.
