Personal Insights
The film that helped Britney Spears in the transformation from a music star to an actress is the movie “Crossroads”. The movie also gave additional appeal to its fans as it displayed Spears’ acting abilities. Predating Rhimes’ stardom from Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, this film is based on her original script which is a mix of friendship, finding oneself and chasing one’s dreams. There are supporting roles performed by soon-to-be actors Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning in the movie.
Cultural Significance
Adolescent girls practically idolized this film, referring to it as ‘the perfect teenage fantasy’ – this can be noted from the beginning of the movie, when a group of girls held a groovy dance party. Directed by Tamra Davis, who had previously collaborated with one of the film’s producers, Spears; the cameos and performances by Spears in the film enrich its plot. Apart from the film’s soundtracks, the popularity of the film was buoyed by significant media coverage and popularity of its cast, which included Zoe Saldana and Britney Spears.
In the month of November, as a part of the campaign to promote the memoir of Britney Spears, ‘Crossroads’ also got a limited re release and it received broad attention much to the surprise of everyone. The re release further spread the word of Crossroads, this also the first time many young people had seen the movie. It promoted the arguments regarding the role of the Crossroads movie in shaping the teen films in the early 2000s.
